A momentous day.
Michael, our oldest, is a very capable and talented 5-year-old, but he can get a bit anxious. His nerves can keep him from doing things his body could readily do: going underwater, taking off the training wheels, etc. So on a gorgeous 70 degree day our family went down to the school yard and I took off Michael's training wheels for an attempt to go two-wheeled; our prior attempts had been de-railed by Michael's overactive imagination of possible detrimental scenarios.
Dave and I were talking to some friends for a few minutes just after we arrived, and we suddenly look over and see Michael riding his bike (2 wheels) and saying, "Hey Dad," as if he had been riding a bike for years. And he never had a real fall.
I asked him how he figured out how to ride it, and he told me that it was an accident. He was sitting on the seat, trying to walk it over to Dave for help. His foot accidently got caught on the pedal as it went around and then other one got tripped up in the fray and before he knew it, he was riding a bike. Accidently.

This is because you are an excellent mother and took him to the park in the first place. Did you cry? I cried and yelled when my first kid learned. All the other parents at the park were alarmed, but I didn't care. It was like I accomplished something!
that is hilarious.
