A few nights ago I asked her what she wanted to hear, and her lower lip started quivering and her eyes filled up with tears.
"Mom, don't sing the song about when you wake up and I'm gone. I don't like that song. It really makes me sad."
Then big, huge crocodile tears that were only quelled minutes later when I finished the refrain of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
I guess the middle verse of "You are my Sunshine" is awfully sad.
"The other night dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamt I held you in my arms. But when I woke up, I was mistaken, so I hung my head and cried."
And tonight, a repeat of this little scenario, tears and all. She cries just thinking about that song. And Ellie was still sniffling when I finished "Barges."

it's true. that verse kills me, too. how sweet that she is so moved. what a lucky girl to have shelby singing to her at night. will you come over here and sing for me, too?
barges. so beautiful. did you sing the high or low part? out of my window looking through the night...I'm going to be singing it all day.
I love Ellie. She is a peach.
