Watch what you wish for

Blake is the chin-up champ of his gymnastics class.  Feeling that he has conquered it, he has moved on to climbing the 30 ft. rope, in hopes of ringing the bell at the top and getting a medal. Hopefully that post will follow in a few months.
So, about a month ago I had my preschool observation/conference for Blake. His incredible preschool has 2 way mirrors so you can watch them for a few hours, and the director gives you some private feedback.

When she asked if I had any concerns,  I told her that Blake's gross motor skills are great, but I wish he had more interest in writing. He does small things like legos, playdough, knex, and will write his name when I press him to. I then said (verbatim): I just wish he would get to the point where he loves to write his name, you know, when he would write it on everything he found.

I meant paper.

1 week to the day of that comment, I opened up the toy/linen closet upstairs and found this, etched in the wood shelves--

Notice that he wrote his name on every single shelf that he could reach.

I couldn't complain.

I remember when I was about that age and I wrote "Ben Williams" in about 4 Hymn books at church. I got busted, but secretly thought there was no way they could catch me. It was after all, Ben Williams!

The joys of literacy. (Fortunately, Henry doesn't write his name... yet)
